Join us for the official relaunch of CHSA on Saturday August 21st

CHSA of Art Open Day is August 21st, 2021

in collaboration with Cork Craft Month & Heritage Week

12.30 to 5pm

All Welcome! Meet the CHSA team and join us for a fun day of Art, Heritage, Experimental Archaeology, Treasure Hunts, Music and more!

In celebration of the relaunch of our Art School on Chapel Hill in Macroom we are hosting an awareness & appreciation day of the benefits of creativity to the community.

A series of Heritage based workshops and demonstrations will be held on the spacious grounds and in the buildings of Chapel Hill. 

Events for children, music and food will welcome visitors and participants.

There will be opportunities to meet the Artists, Artists Educators & teachers of Chapel Hill all while celebrating the traditional customs and heritage crafts that link the community to one another and the locality. 

Join us Saturday August 21st for three Heritage based Workshops and Demonstrations.

Workshops

Rosemary Kavanagh of Wildrose Basketry will transport you on a journey from Willow cultivation to a completed piece of willow basketry to take home.

The planes and features of the Human face provides the spring board for participants  to explore the ancient and craft of sculpting in clay.

Our Head Modelling  workshop uses a traditional armature to encourage participants of all ages to have a go at this ancient skill in a fun, learn and explore atmosphere.

Demonstration

Helle Helsner will demonstrate her research in  Experimental Archaeology with a demonstration on the ancient craft of Bronze Age Tin smelting and Casting 

In tandem with these Workshop / Demonstrations Chapel Hill will play host our visitors with music, food, treasure hunts for children, Children’s Ogham Stone Chess, Face Painting, Hide and Go Seek and guided tours of Chapel Hill buildings and Garden.
